Estimates are that 76,000 children in our 13-county region have no health insurance. The majority live with parents earning more than poverty but not enough to cover basic needs. Further, new studies show rising health care costs continue to erode parents' ability to purchase private children's health care coverage.
Uninsured children go without basic checkups, frequently delay seeking care until easily treatable problems become more serious, and often simply live with chronic problems that affect their ability to perform well in school.
We are committed to working with others in our Central Texas community to insure our children. One of the most valuable resources a community has is its children, because they are our future, and healthy children mean a healthy future.
